Small Earthquake Near McHenry Illinois Yesterday PDF Print E-mail

A Little Shake

Last evening Illinois experienced a small, magnitude 2.4, earthquake near McHenry, IL (60051) around 10 pm. It was felt in Wisconsin and Indiana, as well as Illinois.

Residents from around the region responded to the USGS "Did You Feel It?" earthquake website.(http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/events/us/c0007u9c/us/index.html) Their responses indicate the shaking was light/weak in and around McHenry, IL.

Other Earthquakes in the Region

Illinois has experienced two other earthquakes in the last 6 months. Those earthquakes were located in the southern Illinois region and were mild as well.

A surprising 41% of the nations urban and farm water runoff drains into the Mississippi River and out into the Gulf of Mexico.

Every year, as a result of this runoff, dead zones occur in the Gulf of Mexico.
