Summer is a great time to get out on a bicycle for a scenic ride around town. Two women step out of the bicycle rental shop on 22nd Street, near Virginia Avenue N.W. in Washington D.C. on a summer Sunday in 1942, to do just that.

The image is from the U.S. Farm Security Administration - Office of War Information Black & White Photographs Collection, in the United States Library of Congress.

In 1942, John Ferrell photographed two boys riding across the ford on their bicycles in Rock Creek Park, Washington D.C.

What better way to get around than on your bicycle, and what better way to cross a ford than on your bicycle with your feet on the handlebars.

Great fun! I can hear the joyful laughter.

The image is from the Farm Security Administration - Office of War Information Photograph Collection, in the United States Library of Congress.
