The design criteria for the home included a small footprint not to exceed 880 square feet, a budget not to exceed $100,000 in construction costs, demonstrate hurricane resistance, incorporate principals of universal design and must meet the requirements of LEED for Homes Platinum certification. The first place student and emerging professional designs will advance to compete at the national level where four designs will be selected by a jury of industry peers and Broadmoor residents. These four homes will be constructed and undergo a yearlong measurement and verification period to determine the actual versus designed levels of energy efficiency.
